Truth and Consequences

Did you ever notice that consequences aren't something we look at very often?  Tv, movies, the internet seem to have only one mode - green for go, go, go.  Ads show us steaming hot fries or pizza with thick gooey cheese but not the consequences of eating too much salt, fat or greasy foods.  Exercise ads target our vanity, but not the consequences of improper footwear or poor form.  I think it's because their goal is to sell a product not care for our health.  But the Church is different.  She cares about the consequences.

Walls in Pittsburgh

Couldn't resist sharing this last wall.  It's a mural in Pittsburgh depicting some of my favorite things.  Jesus, sushi and acoustic guitar music.

Another entry for this weeks Daily Post Photo Challenge.  Considering the walls we've erected and decorated, the halls we walk down each day, or the exteriors we've ignored or neglected. What do these walls reveal about a place, people, or you?

Seeing Jesus in Each Other

God dwells within us.  That means that each person understands God in a unique and unrepeatable way.  This is the heart of Franciscan spirituality.  St. Francis believed that God became human because He wanted to enter into our lives, in a way we could understand.  God is constantly communicating through creation and through the best and worst of what it means to be human.  Our frailty reveals God’s tenderness.  Our sinfulness reveals God’s mercy.  Our joy reveals the presence of the Holy Spirit.  The times we are kind reveal God’s compassion.  The freedom we experience reveals God’s love.  The forgiveness we are able to offer reveals that God can do the impossible.  St. Francis believed that we come to know God the more we grow in our understanding of what it means to be human.  All of life can be a moment that reveals God.  We need to train our hearts to see God in each other.

Fidelity to Prayer



This cross is located in El Santuario de Chimayo, New Mexico.  It's the final destination of the Pilgrimage for Vocations in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.  A 100 mile walk for vocations that was started in 1973.
