This cross is located in El Santuario de Chimayo, New Mexico. It's the final destination of the Pilgrimage for Vocations in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. A 100 mile walk for vocations that was started in 1973. The main goal being prayer and sacrifice for vocations especially to the priesthood and religious life. In 2010 I had the privilege to walk with some amazing women. On the third day they literally pulled me up the steepest hill. Otherwise I would have given up. The entire pilgrimage is a sign of the Holy Spirit's fidelity to continue to pray though us, inspire us to do the seemingly impossible and God's deep desire to live in us.
It takes one week to complete the 100 mile pilgrimage, with men and women (on separate routes) walking about 20 miles each day. Pilgrims sleep in parish halls or school gyms located on the way to Chimayo with local church organizations or families providing meals for the pilgrims. Closing activities with the Archbishop of Santa Fe begin at 9:30 AM in Chimayo on the Saturday concluding the pilgrimage.
