Feathers Afloat

Feathers - an ingenious creation.  Nothing floats like a feather.  Light as air, warmer than most any synthetic, they act as waterproofing for birds, and they are beautiful to behold.  This week's Daily Post Photo Challenge.  How to interpret the word afloat?
